cooperative multitasking is the new hotness?

anyone who used a computer in the 80s...or mac users, will have "fond" memories of cooperative multitasking. it seems to be hot again: mozy has an interesting fibers library written in c++, and asana has a fibers implementation for javascript. i'll ignorantly lump coroutines in with fibers into the "too clever by half" category. we toiled for a good decade to build solid preemptive kernels to dig us out of the minefield of userspace concurrency...it'll be interesting to see how these new measures fare.
